Good one.
Good one.
There's a lot of misconceptions here. I'll try to address a few.
First of all: The P71 computer is almost identical to the civilian one. There's thousands upon thousands of parameters in the PCM. The P71 only has a couple differences, such as a bit higher idle (to power more accessories), a bit higher shift points, and a bit more aggressive spark tables. There's nothing really "high performance" about them, and there's no reason they would ever "detune" them or a ford dealer wouldn't reflash it to the correct version for you.
Second BS misconception I hear is that cops supposedly buy tuners to tune their cars. That's just BS. Maybe one in a million cops uses it for some strange reason, but it just doesn't happen. There's no reason they would want to. A tune isn't very effective or worth the cost unless your car has performance modifications.
2003 P71: Totaled, parted out, scrapped.
2003 P71: 5.4L swap, exhaust, dyno tune, stuff.
2002 P71: Stock.
