    Painting/Cleaning steel wheels

I just picked up my 1st CVPI a 2006 with 17" steel wheels. I'll be running the center caps. My questions are what do you use to clean the brake dust or assorted grime off, and what do you recommend to paint and keep them shiny black? Also if I want to switch to full hubcaps from time to time, do I need to find only 2006 & up caps (17") or will any year work and are there any special needs for switching between center caps and full hubcaps?

The black wheels are a Matte Black. If you want to paint them with out removing the tire get a 1in wide paint brush and go over the tires with Ru-Glide, paint won't stick to it, then paint the wheels. after the paint dries real good just hose off the Ru-Glide (if you want). The center caps are the same because it is the same lug nut pattern for 16" and 17" wheels, but for full cover wheel covers you will have to use a 17" cover, and If factory wheel covers different lug nuts are needed.

How hard was that to do? I was considering doing so myself.

Very easy. I put masking tape around the edge of the wheel,so the spray didn't get on the tire. Can't tell the old wheels from the one I bought at the dealer.

Just tape off the lug nuts or what ever you don't want to get paint on. Couple light coats should do it.

You need to prep the surface before you paint or it will peel off over time. VHT makes a high temp paint for painting your wheels, and it looks really good when yur finished.
