Steering rack, shocks and pads for 04 p71

First post and I'm still fresh to the p71 world... I just picked up my first 04 p71 and have a few questions

Is there a difference between the civilian Vic and the p71 steering racks? I need to replace it... And where are the best places to get rebuilt ones?

I'm looking to replace the pads and rotors, are there any good aftermarket pads you can recommend? I'm looking for something that is about as aggressive as you can get for the street without having to heat them up... Also looking for slotted or drilled rotors, do these cars tend to have a preference?

Any good performance oriented shocks you guys have any experience with?

    thanks in advance,
    Glen

welcome, with p71's less is more. if it's a sap...(street app package.) hi-pro all you want. if a p71 package, my opinion is keep it same from the factory with motorcraft parts as much as possible. ebay is the #1 source for parts. used parts are a gamble on ebay. better to by locally so yu can finger print them. the parts on a p71 are designed for heavy duty applications. if your not gonna street race or run from the highway patrol any time soon, then what's on the car now, is what you need new. steering components must remain the same. the civillian crown vic is too "mushy." as one of our panelist decribed. if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

^^^ +1 on Motorcraft parts rule.

Also a big fan of hawk pads:

Very little dusting and stops better than OEM without a doubt. had em on my other car.

I've heard DBA makes a good rotor.

for p71, check the list front and rear.

Welcome to the forum. I think Raybestos also makes pads, slotted rotors and calipers for the police CVs.

Thanks for the info, I'm the type that likes to autocross my daily driver so I'm not too worried about the stiffer shocks, but I'm getting older so I'll look into the ford oem shocks, think they are stiff enough or should I step them up a bit to something aftermarket?

Ford makes a rack for the p71? Is it new or rebuilt? I like to save money where I can, but I know ya get what ya pay for...

I'll check those different pads, what do you guys think about the drilled/slotted or neither, remember I do like to autocross this thing... can't wait for next season...
