    Partially open Exhaust experiment...

Basically I went to the hardware store and bought some 6inch bolt screws and some washers, Then, I unbolted the top of my H-pipe from the front cats, reinstalling them a half inch apart with the washers to vent a bit more noise. Cats are all still connected, I basically have a small break in my exhaust towards the manifold/after the front cats.. Anyways, started her up, sounds like an old-school dodge charger, loud but not as loud as some of the ricers with cheap exhaust around here. Throttle response is much better, no more WOT hesitation. Question... Is it legal..? Technically the front cats are still functioning, rear ones as well, but IDK. As long as I keep the revs down its about as loud as those new Dodge pickups with the Hemi in em, little more vibration though. I live in California so I'm up in the air about weather to keep the mod or not.

You should have a closed exhaust all the way to the rear so that exhaust fumes do not enter the passenger compartment of the car!

No fumes, its the equivalent of a strategically placed exhaust leak, and its behind the front cat so the air is filtered first.

Does it sound good or like an exhaust leak? Can you smell it at idle?
E85 is green and I dont care. But its also 105 octane = 7300RPM shift point and I really care.

So that would mean that my exhaust is clean because it's filtered through my catted system and that if I ran a hose from my exhaust pipe to the inside of my cabin that I wouldn't pass out and die???????????????
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Carbon Monoxide is a sightless, oderless killer and yes.......you will die after you have exhaust fumes get in your car because first you pass out, then you kick the bucket....nuff said.

I got a hand me down 73 Buick Skylark that almost killed me from a leak that was close to the front of the car I would not do this you will not know what is happening . I about passed out going down the road and lucky for me a friend of Mine that knew more about cars was riding with me and knew something was up .he and his dad found the leak on the curve down off the manifold it was coming up from under the firewall . replaced the Pipe and On my way with no more headaches that was the first clue .you sit in traffic and it will come into your car

Nah by filtered air I didn't mean breathe the stuff like a cigar lol I meant as far as California emissions standards go, the cats are still intact and doin their job. leak is at beginning of H pipe, not between front and rear cats where the manifold curves, sorry my mix up lol And yes it does sound better than most Mustang GTs drivin down the road, it only sounds like an exhaust leak when you put your head under the car where the exhaust is being vented. But from any conventional distance it sounds like a hemi, I've gotten numerous compliments from mustang owners I've encountered around here, most ask if my vic is Cammed or if I'm running headers lol I've also reduced the gap to a 1/4 of an inch or the thickness of a credit-card since my last post, and no the fumes do not enter the cabin nor can you smell the exhaust with windows down. The gap is too small at this point to do anything in the ways of harming anything, 95% of the exhaust still comes from the tailpipes, and I've gone 800 miles like this with no passing out even in still traffic, no technical issues, if anything the mileage seems to have improved along with throttle response some.
