    Rear deck mounted brake lights

I ssaw a warning in the owner's manual advising against any modifications to the brake light circuitry. Also saw something in the "Modifier's Guide" stating that it is OK to make modifications to this system after the wiring enters the trunk.
I want to add brake and turn signal lights to the rear deck of my '04. Turn signals are no problem - just splice into the front ones. But for the brake lights I want to splice into the "Third" brake light wiring. Can anyone tell me if this will work, or will it mess up other things?

I'm assuming these are in addition to all of the factory lighting. I'd go LED with it if it were me, to avoid adding more load to the existing wiring and circuitry than it was designed/intended to carry. Also, I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to do, but if it's all red, you could just hook one red light on each side to the brake light on each side, and that would work for brake and turn. I'd be reluctant to add anything other than LED unless it was powered using a relay to avoid putting excessive load on the factory circuits. But, using the third brake light's wiring to trigger those relays or power reasonable LED's should be fine.

On my '04, under the rear deck(inside trunk)there are two wires with female butt plugs for the deck brake/turn signals.

My 05 came with a antenna farm, as well as strobes and the wires still installed in the car.

my 00 also has open plugs beneath the back deck for the extra lights, (back in the day) the departments would mount trailer looking lights in the back windows and have them attached there. just large red circle lights. If you have a model with the plugs there, you SHOULDNT run into a load problem as it is designed to have them, if your splicing in new connections, a relay or led lights is the way to go.

Please post some pics when you get them in, would love to see them, I have tried searching for older model whales that are still in service with the lights installed but cannot seem to find any

Yes please post pics and/or video once you get this working, I too have been looking at adding turn signal and brake lighting on the deck. I've been looking at those tailgate lightbars, it seems like the easiest solution to install and I found a trailer harness kit for our cars. Here is the link to the video, in that page there is a link to where they sell it. Only proble would be the light bleed through without a proper 'shield' installed.
