    Re: P71 Torque converter

Uh stall speed is ~1800 RPMs on a P71, TC size on a P71 is probably 11.25inches. I plan on buying a 9.5 inch lock-up converter with 4000 Stall speed

    Stall Speed

    Application Min Max
    4.6L 2V 2,048 2,424 Rpm
    4.6L Police applications 2,363 2,771 Rpm

Be advised OEM Specs will Differ from Aftermarket Specs. Use the Oem Specs to Gauge difference from One Oe Part to another.

    Fluid Capacities
    Police applications 12.1L (12.8 quarts)
    Non-Police applications 13.1L (13.9 quarts)

The Lower Capacity illustrates that the Converter is physically Smaller on the PI Cars.

This is out of FORD 2006 Shop Manual

I have dealt with standard transmissions most of my 66 years. Could someone explain the stall rpms and what and why would want to change them.
