    Improving the P71 gas milage

I resently purchased a GFORCE performance chip thinking it would plug right into the ECU. Instead it spices into the IAT censor wiring. So I am reluctant to install this. Has anyone tested this product?

First Mod for Fuel Mileage I advise is a K&N Filter. The cheapest place I have found is amazon.com. Be prepared for the catalog to say it does not fit The P.I. I went to fordparts.com and cross referenced my 06 and it shows both cars use same filter element on my particular year. The Box is different but the element the same. you can cross reference your year at the site by putting in year model and on the parts page clicking on search by part number and use base part# 9601. If it has same FORD part number just use a base model to look up your filter at the amazon site.

On a side note the P.I. Box is the desired box to have on the later cars and a Cold air Kit does not have as much benefit on the I believe 05 up Cars. On the Earlier Cars some guys use The Maurader Box.

I gleened a bit of info from this site. Of interest to me is the Ported Intake which I think I will attempt on my own as i can grind metal! LOL!

I have looked at the wires from IAT censor but cannot identify the correct 2 wires I need to splice in to. I have to admit I am very reluctant to instal this beeing worried my nice running car gets messed up. I will give them a call asking for help identifying the correct wires. If I install this I will give a report on its performance.

Re: Improving the P71 gas milage

My buddies and I tried the geforce chip on an old Ford Ranger a while back, first off, it's not a chip, open the fancy silver casing and it's just a resistor candy-coated to look like a chip, and all that resistor does is trick the ECU into thinking the air coming into the engine is colder than it really is resulting in a rich fuel/air mixture (horrible performance and gas mileage) which in other-wards builds up excessive carbon deposits in your combustion chambers, fowls spark plugs, and eventually causes expensive repairs. Want good mileage? Buy a K&N intake, a ported plenum and a 75mm throttle-body, MSD ignition coils, iridium spark plugs and top it off with an SCT tune from Blueovalchips.com, in fact the SCT tuner alone can drastically improve performance. It's about a $400 investment but it works. My 2002 P71 get better gas mileage than my brother's 99' V6 mustang, my dad's v6 Ford explorer, and my Acura Integra and I've maxed out the performance settings

I get roughly 330 miles on a full tank(15 gal) or 22mi/gal on my '98, which to me is awesome for having 8 cylinders. Only lose mileage if I run the a/c.
