1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
2. Disconnect battery negative cable from battery and properly isolate to prevent accidental reconnection.
3. Drain the coolant below the water thermostat.
4. Remove or disconnect the following:
Engine cover
Water outlet adapter and position aside
Water thermostat and the O-ring seal from the intake manifold
Fig. Position of thermostat housing-SOHC engine
Fig. Orientation of thermostat when installing-SOHC engine
To install:
1. Inspect the O-ring seal install a new seal if necessary.
2. Install or connect the following:
Thermostat into the intake manifold
Water outlet adapter and torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
Engine cover
Refill the cooling system, check for leaks and repair if necessary
DOHC Engine
NOTE
The thermostat is located toward the bottom of the engine.

3. Drain the coolant system.
4. Raise and support the vehicle.
5. Remove or disconnect the following:
Coolant hose to thermostat housing
Coolant outlet
Thermostat and the O-ring seal
Fig. Orientation of thermostat when installing-DOHC engine
To install:
NOTE
Do not reuse hose clamps. Instead, use appropriately sized worm-style clamps in place of the constant tension clamps.
1. Inspect the O-ring seal and install a new seal if necessary.
2. Install or connect the following:
Thermostat and the O-ring seal
Coolant outlet and torque the bolts to 18 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)
Coolant hose to thermostat housing
