K&N FIPK - Cold Air Intake.

After shopping for several days and finding the cheapest I could get the entire kit for was $245.00, I jumped on top of it!

I figured the amount of money saved on fuel and replacing filters every 6 months, plus the added couple of HP... this thing would pay for it's self in no time. Boy was I correct!

It goes without saying that the K&N FIPK for the crown victoria out flows the stock, restrictive piece of crap... but it also gives your engine a nice deep growl at wide-open-throttle.

If you have the cash to spare... I suggest picking one up!!

Install time various... I took my time and spent about 45mins to and hour. The hardest part was installing the heat shield, I could have used an extra hand or two holding it in place while tightening the bolts.

Here's a couple snaps... (I'm embarrassed I snapped these pictures while my engine bay looked so dirty.)

You know... I can't remember. It was one of those sites that makes you think.. "uhhh I don't know about these guys".

Do a Google (Shop) search and sort by prices low to high. I see the prices have dropped to around $200.

70 MPH on the freeway I run about 20 to 25 MPG using my ScanGauge II.

How does it compare to the recent stock airbox design that is supposedly 'similar' to the Marauder system?

"The 2004–present Police Interceptor is rated for 250 hp (190 kW) because of the addition of a new air intake system. This includes a new airbox that resembles the Mercury Marauder airbox (raised airbox lid, deeper bottom), with an integrated 80 mm (3.1 in) mass airflow (MAF) sensor that is part of the airbox lid. This allows for much more precise flow calibration and reduces the chances of air leakage. The P71 zip tube (the flexible rubber hose between the throttle body and MAF outlet) is also used to reduce NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) as well as transfer air from the airbox to the throttle body with minimal flow resistance."

So, should I just leave it the way it is and go with my tuner. ( Is there no real benefit to adding the CAI ? )

I'd like to know also. I think I'll wait and do it later. There's a lot of other stuff to do to it in the meantime.
