Below you will find some tips on removing vinyl decals from your vehicle, as commonly found on retired police models.
Here is how you remove those pesky Police Decals.
Tools needed:
-Corded Drill / Cordless Drill
-3M Decal Wheel - goes for around $30-$35
Followup:
-Buff the area around the decal either by hand or with a buffer.
-Wash and Wax
-Enjoy your Shiny decal-less paint.
Here is the Package you should get.
Open that up and assemble as such.
Here is the 3 Main rules to keep in mind.
1. DO NOT PRESS ON THE CAR. - a little pressure goes a long way.
2. DO NOT STOP IN ONE SPOT. - AKA burn the paint by hold it in one spot or cause some other mark in your paint.
3. DO NOT EXCEED 4k RPM - Start the drill slow and work your way up till your find a good speed. Faster will make it harder to control and if you get nuts with it will damage the tool and probably the car your working on.
Here is one I did in about 2-3 minutes.
LIGHTLY hold the tool against the decal and let it do the work.
Another section I did.
Now as the decal has likely been on there for years you will need to buff it to remove the "outline" that will remain in the paint.
If your not comfortable buffing ask on the forums and someone can help you out and give you advice. Followed with a nice wash and wax and you should be good to go.
In the end IMO this method is the easiest and least likely to damage your car's paint.
Notes:
*Special thanks to Nomad8326.* 3M Adhesive & Wax or 3M General Adhesive Cleaner also work *very* well to help remove decals and stickers from your vehicle - or for removing stubborn adhesive residue left from the above method.
* Try using saran wrap to cover a decal immediately after spraying liberally to prevent the product from evaporating too quickly / increase effectiveness.
* Always test any spray remover on an inconspicuous spot before using!
