Re: Any difference between a retired P71 and Crown Vic LX?

I get that all the time about "chips" and "cop chips". Check out this arguement at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. I was up after a busy 36hr shift so don't mind my spelling or if I don't seem to make sense at times

Re: Any difference between a retired P71 and Crown Vic LX?

I have a 98 with no limiter....however.....385,000 hard driven miles...not sure if the ol' girl will get up that fast anymore.....well, I'm sure it will, just a matter of how much road I need to get it there (miles and miles...lmao.) my 04 cuts off at 132mph (67,000 on it), depending on the road and the feather of the throttle, slight increase above, but not much. Pretty sad my 96 ranger out-accellerates and dessimates the top-end of my vic (ranger is x-cab long box. over 325,000 on orig 4 banger, had a wrecked 93 (older body style) cobra mustang.....merged them ;-). dropped the ranger 4", put the 302 with T-5 and 8.8 (3:27's) rear end.....fun truck...used to race the deputies and the locals around here.....Found out a new supercharged saleen mustang wipes me though. Always wanted to put a carbed 351m in a 92 tocurrent vic.....need a donor vehicle though...anyone?

I've seen the stats on the Crown Vic LX at this website and I like the18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway fuel economy: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] And so I was wondering is there any difference between a retired interceptor (P71) and a normal LX (such as more power, more weight, less fuel economy, etc.)? Also what should I expect from a 2000 police interceptor with 56,000 miles? Should I expect engine wear and tear and a bunch of holes inside? Well, thanks.
You should expect no better than 20MPG highway with a 2000. You get a 135amp alternator, 3.55 gears with a MMC instead of standard aluminum driveshaft.

What is a locking gear? The axles, differentials, etc are most definitely not speed limited/limiting. The PCM electronically limits top speed.

Police Interceptor gearing is estimated to reach 0-60 mph in 7.5 seconds and have a top speed of 145 mph with 130-mph speed limiter.

([Only registered and activated users can see links. ])

but i dont know if thats accurate or not i guess. take it or leave it i suppose
and that is specific to my year as well, it seems there are many subtle differences every few years so I would not be sure about yours, but figured it would be close

They messed up when they listed speed limiter under suspension. I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is no mechanical speed limiter on any P71 (or any other Ford/Mercury car ever built). Be careful when you use a general For Sale web site or Wiki, etc as a cite to authority.

i think i disagree with you because i have a nice little computer way under the dash of my 02 model and i have seen this same computer under the hoods of 04 models where i have other electrical components. if it isn't i computer that was installed for interceptors then i dont know what it is because its sure not stock considering the mounts that are use any info is appreciated
