The following article describes replacement of the oil cooler hoses on equipped 1998+ Panther platform vehicles.
With age the hoses can become hard and brittle, causing slight oil leakage (normally from the crimps)
The procedure is similar for 1992-1997 models, however these use spring lock couplings near the oil filter adapter instead of the pinch bolt/bracket on both ends like 1998 to current. The spring lock couplings require a special (but inexpensive and readily found) disconnect tool to disengage the coupling.
The external oil cooler is standard equipment on all '92+ Police Interceptors, towing package models, and some Lincoln Town Cars with limo package.
My hoses were old and stiff and covered with leaking oil.
I ordered a set of Oil Cooler hoses of rockauto for $26 with a discount.
Tools needed:
* Sockets
* Extensions
* Oil
* Oil filter
* Cleaner - I used brake cleaner.
I started by spraying both end of the oil cooler hoses to uncover the 9/16 bolts that hold the brackets the keep the hoses locked in place.
It is important to clean the area around the hoses before removal to prevent debris from entering the system. Also, your oil cooler hose bolts may have an 8mm head -d
I removed the drain plug and the oil filter and let them drain before replacing them.
I then started work on removing the 9/16 bolts that hold the brackets in.
Using my small socket wrench with a 8" extension (something a little smaller would be more practical) I was able to remove the bolts which were over 1" long.
After the Bolts were removed and after some good yanking to pop the old hoses out I was able to remove them. Mine were still full of oil so watch out.
Now for Reinstall I lubed the ends of the hoses and pushed them in then used the bolt on each to pull them the last few millimeters for a snug fit.
After making sure everything is reattached properly refill with oil and start it up and check for leaks.
