    Gear ratios

Is there any way to tell what gear-ratio my PI has without having to disassemble the rear end much? I know it can be looked up somehow but some precincts install 3.55/3.73s.

    Thanks

Get under neath your car and look at your differential case. There should be a metal tag bolted to the differential case with stenciling advising you of your gear ratios. I believe there is a door tag to that'll give you a code that you use to decipher your gear ratios.

tag on the rear-end reads SN018C 55 88 9J22...? Where would I go to decipher it? Someone mentioned a site a while back on here but I can't find the thread lol

Happy trigger, if you open the drivers door and look on the door post or door for the Vehicle Certification Label, you will see a column labeled axle. I have included the 2 digit axle codes that can tell you what the axle ratio is for your CVPI. It's probably a 3.27:1 like in my CVPI. I'll attach a picture of the label for your reference.

Here are the axle codes for your CVPI.

    The axle ratios are:

    C8 — 2.73 conventional (non-locker)
    58 — 2.73 conventional (non-locker)
    AZ — 3.08 conventional (non-locker)
    Z5 — 3.27 conventional (non-locker)
    X5 — 3.27 locker

Yep its the 3.27 conventional (non-locker) I'm gonna see about getting a 3.73 ring-gear and pinion from ADTR, just gotta find a drivetrain specialist to install it. Thanks for the info.
Other Notes: My CVPI is an 02' not an 00' don't remember what year Ford started using PI heads/cams. o.O are differentials difficult to install?

If you buy a complete rear end or rear end 3rd member then no problem at all. If you are going to buy ring and pinion gears then yes. You need someone that can set them up RIGHT or you will burn them up. Ever notice at the drag strip, you have some cars that will go half way down the strip with the steering wheels off the ground and still be going in a straight line? Now those rear end were set up "RIGHT" and it probably cost them a grand or two for them to be set that way.

Those guys also run spools which lock both axles together. The only problem comes when they have to turn. Happytrigger, if you don't feel like you can setup the gears yourself, then find a drag racer, and find out who they use. Around the Houston area, Pyle Brothers does most of the performance cars and trucks in my area.

I'm including a pic of the tag on my Interceptor for reference in case anyone needs a look at what one looks like. (and mine is showing a 3L27 --> 3.27 Gear with limited-slip)
