Wow, I can't believe how rusty the bottoms of cars look from over the Mason/Dixon line. Guys it must be a real bitch working on them especially exhaust work with the magnification of the rust on hot pipes and manifolds.

Yeah, changing my exhaust manifold for some stainless-steel-works long tube headers should be fun, especially if the gasket crumbles on dis-assembly... -__- It'd be nice if I could find a pre-assembled 3.73 locker... I hope it doesn't cost more than 1500 to have the rear end redone o.O

A useful tool for checking options etc on these cars is this: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to research & VIN decoder...works great!!!

I just talked to the local driveline specialist down the road from me. They work on everything from rock crawlers, mud trucks, muscle cars and everything in between. I talked to the Owner and he knows my dad. That being said I don't think he's cutting me any kind of deal, though I'm sure his quote is fair.
He told me he does alot of interceptors and more often than not he does 4.10's. he also said that a 4.10 ratio would raise cruising rpm +700 when compared with a 3.27 ratio. And +400 rpm with a 3.73 ratio. he said it's a 4 hour job and doesn't want to go in there without doing bearings. So A Ford Racing ring and pinion, bearing kit fluid and labor = roughly 700.00.

^Yeah, $700 is a fair estimate. That's roughly what it cost me to get mine done. It also included the cost of fixing my tune, which is what you need to do with 03+. For -02 cars, you need to install a different VSS gear in the transmission tailshaft. They're cheap and it only takes a few minutes.

    Re: Gear ratios

Threw on some 4.10 gears and a posi, but I think the shop goofed up on one of the bearing installations, rear tire on passenger side makes rubbing noise, vibrates at ~60-70mph, goes away at speeds over 80mph, its gradually becoming less noticeable the more I drive the car, maybe they didn't add enough friction modifier for the clutch-plates...? No warranty on the labor because I bought my own parts. Could my drive shaft need to be rebalanced...? Should I change the diff fluid after break in period on 4.10s?

    Re: Gear ratios

What did you do with the 3.55 gears which were removed?
Your car may be a 2002 but that rear end was from a 2000 and it had 3.55 gears according to the tag info you had posted.
